THE EPPS
The Epps family is a family of five: Elijah (25), Alauren (22), and their children—Ezekiel (3), Apollo (2), and Novalee (1). They have lived in Missouri for five years, after previously residing in Wichita, Kansas. The Epps have been attending the Dream Center for nearly two years. They first connected with the Dream Center shortly after Elijah became ill and was diagnosed with Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis (PPMS), a condition that left him disabled and unable to work.
Their journey with the Dream Center began by meeting with Patricia to share their story, their challenges, and the dreams and aspirations they held both individually and as a family. They first participated in the Dream Center’s budgeting and financial class, recognizing the need for support as they navigated life as a family of five living on a single income. The class helped them learn how to create and maintain a budget, reduce unnecessary spending, and set realistic financial goals.
When the RISE Cohort opened for new participants, the Epps family enrolled and completed the 16-week program. The course provided guidance in areas such as mental wellness, communication, financial stability, and goal setting. They continued participating in additional classes after RISE, feeling the significant impact the programs were having on their personal growth and their development as a family. As a result, they have gained greater financial stability, learned more effective and in-depth parenting skills, and begun to reduce their overall debt.
Their long-term goals include owning a home and achieving greater financial security, especially once Elijah’s disability application is approved. They also hope to continue working with the Dream Center and, one day, give back in the same way they have received support. The family considers the Dream Center a tremendous blessing and remains deeply grateful for the help, encouragement, and resources provided to them.
